From the vicar:
Kirchentag is consuming whatever limited energy I have, while trying to deal with airplane tickets, rental cars, and the grief surrounding my brother’s funeral next week. I will be flying home to Texas Sunday morning from Frankfurt, which requires quite an early departure from Stuttgart, to get there in time. I won’t be able to be part of the wonderful Sunday service we had planned for the baptism of three beautiful young children, but thanks be to God, we also have three talented and experienced assisting clergy who will take over from me and make it all happen.
So here is the big news of the week: Holy Eucharist and Holy Baptism to be celebrated in the Leonhardskirche, this coming Sunday at 11:15. Please be there to witness the new birth of three brand-new Christians, and to celebrate with the many family and friends the fellowship which prepares us for heavenly glory, partaking, as is your privilege, the sacred meal of thanksgiving.
Hopefully, by the time you are singing hymns of praise, I will be somewhere over the English Channel on my way to Texas, to assist in the burial of my little brother,… younger brother, who has died rather suddenly leaving a grieving widow, three grieving children, and two grieving brothers.
Focus your prayers mostly on the thankfulness we feel when another soul is baptised into eternal salvation, but save just a little bit of your prayers also for me and my family.
I will be back before you can miss me.
English Evensong for Kirchentag…. this Saturday at 18:30… in the Katharinenkirche. Entry is free. Come early to get a seat. Stay afterwards for the Blessing of the New Parish Centre. The New Parish Centre, is not finished. You will still see things that need to be done; but it is 80% finished, and the blessing might just give us the umph we need to get it finished.
Next Flea Market…. a fund-raiser to finish off the parish centre,… will be on Sunday June 28… Please note…. that any volunteers helping with the Flea Market will miss the Sunday morning liturgy…with permission of your vicar, of course. God will understand. Just this once.
No Bible Study for the next two weeks! Due to Kirchentag’s Nacht der Begegnung… next Wednesday, and Diocesan Synod in Köln the following week, the Bible Study group which normally meets on Wednesday nights will not meet. On June 17th it will resume with a special summer series “Saints, Spirituality, and Scripture.” Each week we will be introduced to an historical saint, whose Biblical based spirituality has left a lasting impact on the church.
Ladies Evening Group (L.E.G.S.)will meet next on Tue, 9 June, 19:00 – 22:00 at the restaurant Ha Long, Johannesstraße 95, 70176 Stuttgart, Germany. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or speak to Elinor if you’d like to join us.
Men’s Pub Nightwill Thursday, 11 June, 19:00 – 22:00, at Gaststätte zum Paulaner, Calwer Straße, Stuttgart. Contact Darren email@example.com find out more. This is a chance for the men of the church to get together for fellowship over a good glass of beer or beverage of choice.
