Advent2 – St Nicholas – Sunday 06. December

Welcome!
Unusually, all you will find this Sunday is music to enjoy, also the collect for St Nicholas and some reflections.
In addition, in the Advent Calendar for today, you will find a children’s story and also a poem and a wreath to light the second candle for.
Alternatively, if you didn’t get to the Advent Service last Sunday, then that is sill there to enjoy. Generally Advent services work best after dark by candlelight, but choose a time that suits you.

Hymn: Hills of the North Rejoice

Collect for St Nicholas Bishop of Myra c4.

Almighty Father, lover of souls, who chose your servant Nicholas to be a bishop in the Church, that he might give freely out of the treasures of your grace: make us mindful of the needs of others and, as we have received, so teach us also to give. Amen.

Bible Reading and Reflection:

The spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me;
he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed,
to bind up the broken-hearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and release to the prisoners;
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
to provide for those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a garland instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the mantle of praise instead of a faint spirit.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, to display his glory.

Prayers of Intercession:

  • pray for all who have needs
  • pray for all who give, all who give generously, all who give sacrificially

Hymn: People look east
