Prayers on the Go

Morning…

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day
So may the light of your presence O God
Set our hearts on fire with love for you;
Now and for ever. Amen.

If you are at home light a candle
In silence watch the flame and ask God
To enable you to ‘shine as light in the dark places of the world’ today….

O Lord enable me this day to reveal your glory in all I do and think and say and do; that your presence may bless and strengthen me all the day long through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel
who has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets God promised of old
to save us from our enemies, from the hands of all that hate us,
to show mercy to our ancestors
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
To set us free from the hands of our enemies
free to worship him without fear
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.
And you child shall be called the prophet of the Most High
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way
to give people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of all their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn shall break upon us
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Midday…

Lead us from death to life; from falsehood to truth.
Lead us from despair to hope; from fear to trust.
Lead us from hate to love; from war to peace.
Let peace fill our hearts, our homes, our world. Amen.

O Lord ! Thou knowest how busy I must be this day:
If I forget Thee do not thou forget me. Amen.

Evening…

Blessed are you sovereign God
our light and our salvation;
to you be praise and glory for ever.
You led your people to freedom
by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.
May we who walk in the light of your presence
acclaim your Christ rising victorious
as he banishes all darkness from our hearts and minds.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit;
Blessed be God for ever.

Lighten our darkness we beseech thee O Lord;
and by thy great mercy defend us
from all perils and dangers of this night;
for the love of thy only Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

O Lord support us all the day long of this troublous life
until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes
the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over
and our work is done.
Then Lord in your mercy grant us a safe lodging
a holy rest and peace at last;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.
From this all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm
and has scattered the proud in their conceit
casting down the mighty from their thrones
and lifting up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his servant Israel
to remember his promise of mercy.
The promise made to our ancestors
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Night…

Before the ending of the day
Creator of the world we pray
That you with steadfast love would keep
Your watch around us while we sleep.

If you are at home light a candle
In silence watch the flame and
–  reflect on what has been good today
–  reflect on what has been less than good

Save us O Lord while waking and guard us while sleeping
that awake we may watch with Christ and asleep may rest in peace.

Grace…

In a world where so many are hungry we thank you for our food.
In a world where many are adrift we thank you for our home.
In a world where many are lonely we thank you for each other. Amen.

All time favourites…

Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn; for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek; for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness; for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart; for they shall see God.
Blessed are peacemakers; for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are those who suffer persecution for righteousness’ sake;
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
courage to change the things I can
and wisdom to know the difference.

Teach us good Lord
to serve thee as thou deserves;
to give and not count the cost
to fight and not heed the wounds;
to toil and not to seek for rest;
To labour and not to ask for any reward
save that of knowing that we do thy will.
